Learning is SWEET in Mrs. Baer’s 3rd Grade Mrs. Baer’s 3rd grade students are Raising the Bar one Oreo at a time. They had a delicious time learning about the phases of the Moon! Students used Oreos to create and identify each phase of the Moon. Hands-on learning + a tasty treat = the perfect way to make science fun and memorable!

Ms. Corrigan's 4th graders put their observation skills to work as they explored how we describe and identify properties of matter. Her scientists compared and classified objects based on mass, volume, texture, color, shape, odor, magnetism, and hardness. They made careful observations, shared their thinking, and discovered how matter has many unique properties that we can observe and measure. Way to go, scientists ~ keep observing, questioning, and discovering!

Learning is Growing in 5th Grade Mrs. Hickman’s 5th graders kicked off Unit 1 in Benchmark by learning all about the different parts of a corn plant. From roots to leaves to tassels, her students were busy exploring how each part of the plant plays an important role. We love watching our Mighty Manatees dig into new learning, ask questions, and grow their knowledge.

Mrs. Sorenson’s kindergarteners had a Chicka Chicka Boom Boom kind of day! They read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and then headed to different centers to expand on the story through a variety of fun and engaging activities. Her little learners were busy reading, creating, exploring, and learning ~ all while having a booming good time!

Mrs. Hickman’s and Mrs. Shakan’s fifth graders became scientists during an exciting investigation of earthworm preferences. Using the scientific method, students developed questions, made predictions, designed and conducted fair tests, collected data, and analyzed their results. They investigated whether earthworms preferred dark or light environments and wet or dry conditions. Their students practiced careful observation, teamwork, recording evidence, and drawing conclusions based on their data. It was wonderful to see their curiosity in action as they learned more about how earthworms respond to their environment!

Bubble Challenge Accepted and Passed: Mrs. Whelden’s 2nd graders tackled a big lesson in self-control this week with the ultimate challenge ~ Self-Control Bubbles! The goal? Stay completely focused and engaged, even with bubbles floating right in front of them. It wasn't easy, but every single student kept their eye on the prize and ignored the distraction like absolute pros. They were so happy to find out they all PASSED the challenge and earned a well-deserved Lucky Duck! Way to go, 2nd graders ~ we are so proud of your focus and self-control!

Mrs. Landis’ 1st graders were busy learning Stand Up, Hand Up, Pair Up, a cooperative learning strategy that gets students moving, talking, and interacting with their peers. Afterwards, her young learners completed a Find a Friend Who Activity. What a great way to build classroom community, practice communication skills, and help students get to know one another.

Ms. Colon’s 5th grade scientists put the Scientific Method to the test with a colorful (and delicious-looking) investigation: Does temperature affect how quickly a Skittle dissolves in water? Her students made a prediction, identified their variables, conducted a fair test using water at different temperatures, carefully observed and collected data, and then analyzed their results to determine whether their hypothesis was supported. What better way to learn that scientists don’t just guess ~ they ask questions, make predictions, test ideas, collect evidence, and draw conclusions!

Ms. Blalock’s 2nd graders are learning about the power of making choices. After reading and discussing the book, What If Everybody Did That?, her students partnered up to talk through different everyday actions and sort them into good vs. poor choices. Their thoughtful discussions about how small choices, like picking up a piece of trash or waiting your turn in line, can make a big difference when everyone works together.

1st graders in Mrs. Smith’s classroom spent time practicing how to navigate their ELA centers today. While exploring their new routines, they tackled fun literacy puzzles and enjoyed some quiet time reading to themselves. Establishing these center routines helps build independence, stamina, and a love for reading.
